Playing Craps

Craps is not as difficult a game as it first appears.  The layout looks very busy and confusing because one end of the table is the exact replica of the other, with the casino employees at the center.  This allows for more players and more bets to be placed. There are many different kinds of bets, so playing craps can get confusing when several wagers are being made by various players at the same time, in a betting frenzy.

Actually, the game can be slower than blackjack, because the dice often have to be rolled several times before the outcome is clear.  Two dice are used, with the possible numbers being from 2 -12.  You are playing against the house, not any other player. Simply put, the object is to bet as to whether or not the one who is rolling the dice will get the number he needs to win.

 Here are some pointers:

  • Pass Line bet- This bet is placed on the pass line.  It is called a series bet, because the shooter (guy with the dice) may roll several times before someone wins.
  • Don’t Pass Line bet- If player gets a 2, 3, or 12, the series is over, but you win.
  • The come-out roll - The first roll. If the shooter gets 7 or 11 anyone who bet the pass line wins, and the series is over. If he rolls 2, 3, or 12 (called craps), they lose and it’s over. Any other number becomes the point.
  • When a point is established – The series continues.  Now he wants to roll the same number again.  He can continue trying  until he rolls a 7.  If he gets his point again, the pass line wins and it is over.  If he gets the 7, they lose and the series is over. Note that the 7 is not the same as the 7 or 11 in the come-out roll.  Once a series has begun, the 7 becomes a loser.
